A barn with
good bones.

Marrow Barn sits at the end of a gravel track eight minutes from junction 8 of the M40. Oak frame, lime plastered walls, and a walled courtyard that holds the last of the sun. One booking a day, so the whole place is yours from breakfast until the lights go out.

The place

Two years of scaffolding, and then this.

When we took it on in 2019 the barn had a corrugated roof, a floor of compacted mud and a resident population of pigeons. Everything you can see now was done by people who live within ten miles of it. The oak repairs came from a framer in Islip. The lime plaster was mixed by a firm in Abingdon who have been doing it for four generations.

We kept the cart doors, the strap hinges and the initials a wheelwright scratched into the north wall in 1847. We added underfloor heating, a kitchen that caterers actually like, and enough loos that nobody spends the speeches queueing.

  • Licensed for civil ceremonies indoors and out
  • Exclusive use of the whole site, 9am until midnight
  • Heated throughout, so a February wedding works
  • Parking for 60 cars, with room for a coach
Look round the spaces
Four spaces, one booking

Room to spread out, and somewhere to hide.

Hire the barn and you get the lot: courtyard, orchard, snug and twelve acres of meadow behind it. Nothing is shared with another party, because there is never another party.

The Barn

140 seated, 180 standing

Five bays of oak, a stone floor and a roof you keep looking up at. Ceremony at one end, dinner at the other.

The Courtyard

120 standing

Walled, south facing and covered along one side, so drinks happen outside even when the weather turns.

The Orchard

140 for an outdoor ceremony

Sixty year old apple trees on a slope. Ceremonies under the big tree, photographs here at golden hour.

The Snug

24 seated, 40 standing

The old dairy, now a low beamed room with a wood burner. Small ceremonies, breakout groups, quiet corners.

Collected from couples and organisers after their event

We had 118 people and it never once felt crowded. Kate walked us round three times before we booked and answered every daft question about generators and cake tables. There were swallows nesting above the cart door on the day, which our photographer somehow got a shot of.

Rained from noon until four. The covered loggia meant nobody really noticed, and the photographer took us out for ten minutes when it eased off at six. Kate had a spare set of umbrellas in the cart shed that we did not know about until we needed them.

We booked eighteen months out and the price we agreed was the price we paid: no corkage that appeared later, no surprise staffing charge. Our caterer had worked here twice before and said the kitchen was the best equipped barn kitchen she had used. Photographs in the orchard at seven in the evening are worth the whole thing on their own.

Beautiful barn and a genuinely kind team. One gripe: the turning off Wheatley Road is easy to miss after dark and two carloads of our older guests drove past it twice. A lit sign would sort it.

Twenty six of us for a strategy day. The wifi held up, lunch arrived on time, and the snug worked well for breakout groups. We have booked again for October.

My family are loud and they were made to feel welcome. Staff cleared and reset the barn for dancing in about twenty minutes while we were all outside round the fire pit.
